Dear District 205 Families and Staff,

Winter Weather Preparation
As winter approaches, we want to ensure our community is prepared for severe weather that may impact the school day. While District 205 is committed to maintaining in-person learning, there are times when snow, ice, or extreme cold make it unsafe for students and staff to travel. As we move into the winter months and the possibility of snow and cold weather increases, we want to ensure families are familiar with our Emergency Weather Procedures, which outline how the District responds when conditions may impact the school day.

Winter Alert Test Message
To confirm that our communication systems are working properly, the District will conduct a TEST weather alert on Thursday, December 4, at 11 a.m. This message will be sent through ParentSquare and may arrive by phone call, text message, and/or email. This test helps ensure families and staff are able to receive important alerts throughout the winter season.

Updating Your Contact Information
To receive timely notifications, we ask families and staff to verify that the contact information listed in PowerSchool is accurate. PowerSchool syncs daily with ParentSquare, and any updates can be made directly through your PowerSchool Parent account. Keeping your information current helps ensure that school closure notifications and other urgent messages reach you without delay.

Closures and Flexible Learning Plan
When weather conditions become severe, District 205 may need to cancel school or implement our State- and District-approved Flexible Learning Plan. These decisions are made with great care and consideration of multiple factors, always prioritizing student and staff safety. Details about both options, along with additional guidance, can be found on the D205 Emergency Weather Information page.

Staying Informed
If weather impacts the school schedule, we will communicate changes as early as possible through email, text, and phone notifications via ParentSquare. Information will also be posted on the District and school websites, shared on our social media platforms (FacebookInstagram, and X) and provided to the Emergency Closing Center and local media outlets. These multiple communication channels help ensure families receive accurate information promptly.

Winter Weather

Hall Pass
In this edition of Hall Pass, Dr. Campbell speaks with D205 Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations, Mr. Joe Blomquist, about how the District prepares for winter. They discuss the equipment and staff involved in snow removal, ice treatment, and ensuring that buildings and grounds remain safe for students and staff. The conversation highlights the early-morning coordination among grounds, maintenance, and custodial teams, along with close communication with transportation providers to keep buses running smoothly. Families are also encouraged to download the First View app, which allows them to track bus arrivals and departures during winter weather. Throughout the episode, Mr. Blomquist emphasizes the careful planning, constant monitoring, and teamwork that keep students safe while maintaining educational continuity.

Arrival, Recess, and Outdoor Activities
District 205 schools follow established guidelines for arrival, recess, extracurricular events, and other outdoor activities during winter months. These procedures support student safety while allowing for outdoor experiences when conditions permit. Families can review these guidelines on the D205 Emergency Weather Information page.

The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority, and decisions that alter the school day are made thoughtfully and with great care. We appreciate your partnership as we prepare for the winter season and will continue to communicate promptly to help you make any necessary arrangements for your family.

Sincerely,
Elmhurst School District 205
