News Post

Heidi Thomas

Dear Field Families,

I hope that you had a wonderful long weekend. We were so excited to welcome our Falcons back to Field last week.  It has been wonderful to hear their excited voices in our classrooms. We have been using our running record benchmark assessments for all of our readers these past weeks. We will use this information to monitor progress and provide intervention and extension opportunities for students as needed. These assessments will continue throughout the month of January.  I am resharing the attendance calendar for January below as well as the updated February calendar so you can plan accordingly. Please see the note below about meal kits as well as they will be available at Field starting tomorrow. Thank you for your continued partnership. As always if you have any questions please reach out to your child’s teacher, the Field office (mdecarlo@elmhurst205.org, pmasciola@elmhurst205.org), myself (hthomas@elmhurst205.org), or Mrs. DeLaRosa (kdelarosa@elmhurst205.org).

Sincerely,

Heidi Thomas

Foundation 205 Virtual Showcase: Standing Strong for our Students - Feb. 6
Foundation 205 is hosting a Virtual Showcase: Standing Strong for our Students on February 6th at 7pm. The event is free to watch, but there are multiple opportunities to support BOTH our students and local businesses. Visit the website to register and get direct access to the live event link and online auction. The evening will feature national comedian Pat McGann, TikTok sensation Sofie Sanfillipo and performances from York, Sandburg and Edison. The event will run about 45 minutes and will also highlight teachers and students from across the district implementing grants supported by Foundation 205.  The current needs of our students are even greater in this new educational landscape. The ability to respond with innovative resources and support will play a critical role in their success throughout this pandemic and beyond.

D205 Food Services to Offer Free Daily Meal Bags - Beginning Jan. 19
The Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 Food Services Department is helping connect school and families during hybrid learning by offering free meal kits for ALL children!

Beginning Tuesday (January 19, 2021), D205 schools will be handing out an optional shelf stable, one-day meal bag each day at dismissal time for students in grades K-12. Breakfast for the following morning is included in the bag as well. Families with allergy concerns or other dietary restrictions should contact your school’s  office to discuss your child’s specific situation before allowing your child to bring home a meal kit.  If you do not want your child to take a meal kit home, please tell your child and let the school office  know.  Please email Melissa DeCarlo at mdecarlo@elmhurst205.org or call the Field office at (630) 834-5313 if you would like to discuss dietary restrictions or notify us that you would prefer your child not to take a meal kit home.   The food items offered in the lunch bag each day will vary. If your child is taking a meal kit home, please remind them that food is not to be eaten on the bus, and the food should not be shared with anyone due to concerns with food allergies and other dietary restrictions.

D205 also will still offer its normal 7-day breakfast & lunch heat-and-eat meal bags on the following schedule:

Pickup is Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00 PM at the following locations:

  • York High School, Main Entrance Door #3

  • Bryan Middle School, East Entrance Door #13

  • Churchville Middle School, Main Entrance Door #1

  • Sandburg Middle School, Main Entrance Door #3

Updates:

January 20 - Meal pick up from 3:30-5 p.m. at all four locations

January 25 - Meal pick up from 3:30-5 p.m. at all four locations

January 27 - Meal pick up from 3:30-5 p.m. at all four locations

Please help everyone to stay safe by wearing your mask and staying inside your car (roll down back windows or open the trunk to receive the meal kits). Thank you!
