News

5/22/17

Hard to believe this is the last full week of school, then just 2 1/2 days the following week with there being no school on Monday, May 29 for Memorial Day.  There is a lot to pack in so be sure to check email frequently as I will do my best to remind you of all the special activities.  And be sure to read all that is packed in to this email!
THANK YOU's
Please share in my appreciation to:
•Michelle Maiers and Courtney Hesch for coordinating an amazing 5th Grade Performance (i.e. Talent Show/Variety Show).  For those of you who saw it, you know how entertaining, clever and talented the kids were with their various acts as well as how supportive the student stage crew team was!  Co-chairs Michelle and Courtney did such a great job pulling it all together and making it such a memorable event for the 5th graders and their families.  Thank you to the MANY parents who volunteered to be Parent Act Leads as well as help with the backstage, slideshow, programs, music/sound, spotlight, photography, DVD production, and the viewing celebration afterwards for the 5th graders.  Thank you as well to the 5th grade teachers for their support, Mrs. Talbot for her technical support, and to Mrs. Poole for PARTICIPATING in the Closing Act!
•Joanna Spathis/Thomas Goetz for their donation of plants and the work of Marianne Kearney to plant them in the center of the reading garden at the front of school.  Please remind your kiddos not to walk on the top of the planter or otherwise pick at the leaves. The poor tulips in there didn't survive very long, but we're hoping these plants will last.
•Lisa Ciarrachi for planning the final school assembly, which will be a Laser Show this Friday, May 26.

BOOK COLLECTION UPDATE
This week there will be close to 5,000 children's books being sent from Elmhurst to Malawi, Africa as part of the African Library Project.  This means 4 school libraries will be started as a result of the amazingly generous Field School community - WOW!  The goal was for the Kindergarten through 4th Grade Girl Scouts troops to collect 1,000 books to start 1 library, which this goal was far exceeded with your help!  THANK YOU to all who donated books and to all who helped with the collection, especially Julie Freeman and the Koerth family for bringing this project to our attention!

FOG GIFT CARDS - ORDERS DUE TUESDAY, MAY 23
Last chance of the year to order gift cards through the Field of Gifts Fundraiser program. This is an easy way to get all of your end-of-the-year gifts at one time and support the Field PTA as well.
Please see the attached list for retailer options and send an email to Allison Welz at adwelz@sbcglobal.net with your order. Please show quantity and denomination for each card. Example: 2 - $25 Starbucks
Orders are due via email to Allison by this Tuesday morning, 10:00 a.m. Payments need to be sent to the office by this time (attention: PTA/Allison Welz) or dropped off at Allison's house, 251 N. Indiana.  Apologies for this new ordering system. The entire program has changed and was purchased by another company. Due to this change, Field of Gifts will not be offered next year. Also, the Elmhurst City Centre Scholar Dollars will no longer be offered.
Allison thanks you so much for supporting this program over the years! Please let her know if you have any questions (Allison Welz, email: adwelz@sbcglobal.net or cell: 630-220-1177).
