New PBIS Format

Along with the traditional format of the "feather store", Mrs. Thomas would like to give students the opportunity to use their feathers to earn experiences taking place during a lunch recess time.  For example, students could "buy" a face painting session, manicures, reading with a comfort dog, pottery painting experience, etc. We are open to ideas, and if there are any parents with a special talent or interest that would like to be a part of these experiences, please email Mrs. Thomas or me.

There was much discussion regarding the Field PTA endorsing the referendum.  The Field PTA Executive Committee met prior to the general membership PTA meeting and felt it was best to take a position of neutrality on endorsement of the referendum, and to instead act as a source for information.  Upon further discussion at the general membership meeting, and even more discussion amongst the executive committee, and after review of the IL and Field PTA Bylaws, we have decided that we will hold a special meeting on Thursday, September 27th at 7pm in the Field Library.  We will be voting to decide if the Field PTA will endorse the D205 referendum.  If the Field PTA votes to endorse, our approval and support will be publicized and used as a talking point for the Ballot Initiative Committee's "Vote Yes for D205 Schools" Campaign.  PTA Council President, Kristi Amendola, will also be there to answer any questions.

Field's endorsement is in line with the IL Bylaws, under Article III, Section 1F, stating one of the purposes of the IL and Field PTA is, "To engage the public in united efforts to secure the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being of all children and youth".

If you have a strong opinion either way on Field PTA endorsing the referendum, this is the opportunity for your voice to be represented.  We sincerely appreciate every one who spoke and shared their thoughts last night, and we hope all members of the Field PTA can attend next week's meeting as well.

For more information on the referendum, visit elmhurst205.org and see the updated Master Facility Plan page.  For more information on the BIC's campaign, visit YESforD205@gmail.com.

Hello Field Falcons!
As the saying goes, March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. Let's hope the lamb gets here sooner rather than later!
*Thank you to everyone that helped Mr. Fijor with Jump Rope for Heart! I know the kids learned a lot about heart health!

*Thank you to everyone that helped with Science Olympiad! I know everyone had a great time and maybe even learned something!

*Thank you to everyone that came out to enjoy some ice skating with other Field families! It sure looked like a lot of fun!

*Parking/drop-off/pick-up - Please take note of the parking, drop-off, and pick-up instructions sent out by Mrs. Thomas in her Friday communication. These procedures are put in place to keep all of our kiddos safe. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

*Playground balls - The PTA has purchased a lot of playground balls and equipment over the last few years for students to use at recess. The majority of these balls have disappeared with rumors of them being kicked over fences intentionally. We ask that you remind the kids to please not kick them over fences or they will not have equipment to play with. Also, if your yard has found some extra balls in it, if you could please kick them back over into the playground, we would really appreciate it! Thanks!

*Family Arts Fest - Planning is underway for this year's Family Arts Fest which will be held on April 5th from 6:30-8:30pm! St. Charles Road, Elmhurst. Students will compete in the following six categories: 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, 6-8th grade and high school. Last year, over 250 students participated in the tournament.

*Teacher Appreciation Week - The teacher appreciation committee is in the process of planning a great week of events for Teacher Appreciation Week in May.  More details will be shared shortly but our theme for this year is going to be “It’s Such A Treat To Have You As Teachers”.  We will be planning fun, daily activities to spoil and treat them for all the hard work they do.  On the last day, Friday, we will be hosting a luncheon for the teachers.  We are in need of donations to include in the teachers gift baskets and for raffle prizes for this luncheon.  Maybe you got a gift basket or gift card from a co-worker or neighbor you aren't going to use or maybe just something that you don't want or need. *Field Follies - Field Follies is just around the corner and we are looking forward to bringing the Field community together to raise money for the Field PTA at our 2nd annual adults-only fundraiser.  Here are a few updates for you:
1.  Ticket Sales. Tickets are now on sale for Field Follies. To purchase tickets, click here. See below for details:
Date: April 28
Time: 7-10 pm
Location: Cottage Hill Station
Price: $75/ticket
The ticket price includes appetizers and adult beverages, live entertainment, and multiple ways to raise money for Field including a silent auction, raffles, buy-in parties, and wine/dine pull -- all for $75 a ticket.
In addition, we will have access to both the downstairs and upstairs of Cottage Hill which means we'll be able to sell up to 350 tickets this year!
2. Live Entertainment. Calling all rockers, singers, and karaoke enthusiasts! Get ready to sing your heart out because we will be featuring Live Band Karaoke as our entertainment for the evening. The show starts at 9:00 PM - plenty of time to build up your liquid courage!
3. Buy-In Party.
Love planning or hosting parties? Then, we need YOUR help to host a buy-in party.  Buy-in parties are an incredibly fun way to raise money for Field Elementary School!
Here’s how it works: Field parents host a party with a fun theme and charge guests an admission fee to attend. The party is paid for by the hosts and all proceeds from the admission fee will go to the Field PTA. Field families will have the opportunity to sign up to attend a buy-in party beginning on April 28th at 7:00 PM on the mobile app.
Parties can be hosted anytime at the hosts’ home or at any venue for any number of guests at any admission fee…it’s all up to the hosts.  And, the theme could be something as easy as a wine night for the ladies, a poker night for the guys, or an end-of-year pool party for the kiddos. Anything goes! See the attached document for more information on how it works.
If you’d like to host a party please provide the following information in an email to Melanie Canale at mabokina@yahoo.com by Sunday, April 1st:
Subject line: Request to Host Buy-In Party
Theme
Names of host(s)
# of attendees
Proposed admission fee

AASA has reviewed both bills and is opposed to specific provisions which undermine federal support for public education and will negatively impact state and local funding for public schools. To that end, District 205 has a two-pronged call to action:
1. Call the Congressional switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be transferred to your Senators/Representative. The person who answers is taking a tally of votes for and against, and the script you can read is attached.
2. Email the education staffer and legislative director for each member of your Congressional delegation. It can even be one email! You want to send this email to the people in the office who are handling/tracking the policy specifics.

*Save the Date - Winter Wonderfest is planned for February 3rd, 2018! I know that will come quickly and we will have plenty of opportunities to help. Stay tuned for more details!

Reflections is the National PTA arts program that asks children to get creative!  Students are invited to create works of art in any of the six different art categories, reflecting upon a different theme each year.  The six arts categories are dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.  The theme for the 2017-2018 school year is “Within Reach".

Students can create as many projects as they like, in as many arts categories as they like.  Projects can only be submitted through a local unit PTA in good standing.  From the local PTA, projects advance through a judging system through district, region, state and national levels of the program.

The links below are to obtain more information about the Reflections program including rules for each category as well as the student entry form.  Field School has three grade divisions:  K-2, 3-5, and Special Artist.  All entries can be turned in by the front office and are due by Monday, November 13, 2017. Please feel free to contact Michelle Wehrle at michellewehrl@yahoo.com with any other questions.
