Philosophy

The purpose of the Library Resource Center is to create an environment which enriches and extends the classroom and curricula.  The program provides an opportunity for students to develop skills and attitudes which will enable them to become lifelong learners.  The Library Resource Center activities will promote inquiry and reading, foster independent learning, and provide for individual differences.

Field Library Program

School Libraries Make a Difference

The mission of the Field School library program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. Expanding on our mission our program goals are to enhance the students’ use of information by:

  • Creating an atmosphere that welcomes students and promotes independent inquiry
  • Encouraging students to become passionate readers
  • Introducing students to a variety of literature genres
  • Providing a variety of print and electronic materials that support the curriculum
  • Cultivating student creativity
  • Enhancing reading, listening, and speaking skills
  • Assisting teachers in meeting the individuals needs of their students

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY

  • Developing critical thinkers who carefully evaluate the credibility and point of view of the wide range of free information found on the Internet

 

 Welcome to the Field Underground
The Field Underground Library has a light, fresh new look. New fixtures were installed in October of 2008 to replace the furniture damaged during the flood. The shelving is just the right height for our students to reach the materials. We have plenty of space to display new or curriculum related materials. The library includes a carpeted story-time area and instructional area with an interactive white board. Our students have access to a current collection of print and online resources. The adjacent TRC (Technology Resource Center) provides our students with easy access to online resources in addition to our collection of books.

The library program is based on a flexible access philosophy that encourages students to come to the library at any time during the school day to research or exchange books. The program emphasizes reading and literature enrichment, research skills, and using technology as a communication tool. Activities are designed to engage students in a deeper understanding of the grade level curriculum and foster critical thinking skills.

Check Out Procedures

Book Check-out

Normal check-out is one week.  Books may be renewed as needed.

Kindergarten students may check out one book

Grade 1-5 are allowed to borrow two library books. Additional books may be borrowed for extended periods for class projects.   

 

Fines and Fees

Overdue fines are not charged; however, failure to return books on time will result in library privileges suspended until late materials are returned. Students with books that are lost or damaged are charged a replacement fee.  Students are expected to return books on time and in good condition.
